In times of coronavirus, leafing through the 2019 annual report might trigger a wave of nostalgia. 2019 was a completely normal year. For UZH, it was also a very successful year that brought many positive developments.
One of the highlights of 2019 was UZH becoming co-leading house of the new National Center of Competence in Research “Evolving Language”. Scientists were able to gain groundbreaking insights in cancer research. To boost research into the ancient world, around 50 UZH researchers founded the Center for the Study of the Ancient World. Technology transfer organization Unitectra celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2019, with some 18,000 research agreements under its belt. And in teaching, the highly competitive Teaching Fund continued its success story, supporting innovative teaching formats and committed teaching staff.

What’s more, in 2019 UZH strengthened its management and leadership structures, for example by introducing new Strategic Principles. For the first time, an employee survey was carried out. The results of the survey show that UZH offers a good working environment. And another interesting fact: In the cafeterias of UZH, vegetarian and vegan dishes are becoming more and more popular, while meat consumption has decreased.
