The University of Zurich numbers among the world’s top 100 universities. The third annual U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities places UZH at rank 70, which is seven positions better than last year’s result. According to this key ranking, UZH is Switzerland’s third-best higher education institution (after ETH Zurich at rank 35, and ETH Lausanne at rank 40) and the best comprehensive university in the country (before the University of Geneva at rank 91). Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University topped the rankings.
The Best of Global Universities rankings also compare achievements in various disciplines. With a rank of 26, UZH holds a place among the world’s very best institutions in the area of “Immunology”. Other disciplines where UZH numbers among the top 100 are, for example, “Biology and Biochemistry” (rank 31) and Neuroscience and Behavior (rank 32).
The U.S. News & World Report launched its Best Global Universities rankings in 2014 with the goal of showing how universities compare globally. For this year’s results, 1,000 higher education institutions from 65 countries were analyzed. The comparison is based on 12 indicators, including regional and global research reputation and the number of scholarly articles featuring in the top 10 percent of most-cited publications.
